Grant Description
Grants of up to $50,000 to Massachusetts municipal police and fire departments for a variety of initiatives to improve the department response to emergencies, including terrorism. Priority will be given to proposals for training, responding to homeland security emergencies, and initiatives that enhance regional emergency response abilities. Collaborative and multi-disciplinary efforts are encouraged.

Funding will be provided for:

A. Equipment - to defray the costs of purchasing or leasing equipment that will be used to support emergency response initiatives (e.g. interoperable communication devices, personal protective equipment, motor vehicles and other conveyances, etc.).
B. Technology - to defray the costs associated with the purchasing of technology that will be used to support emergency response initiatives (e.g. laptops, records management systems, fingerprint technology, mapping systems, surveillance upgrades, etc.).
C. Training - to defray the costs of training law enforcement, fire, and civilian personnel in enhancing responses to emergencies (e.g. active shooter, school emergency response training, hazmat response training, etc.).
D. Planning - costs associated with the coordination and development of emergency response plans (e.g. community or public awareness planning, etc.).

Please note that personnel costs (including overtime, backfill, and tour of duty costs) are not eligible under this grant program.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Municipal police and fire departments within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The chief executive officers of municipalities must apply for this funding on behalf of police and fire departments.

Separate applications must be submitted if both the police and fire departments from the same municipality are applying for funding.

Deadline for hard-copy submission of completed AGF response: June 22nd, 2016.

Estimated Size of Grant
The Individual Option allows for one individual agency to apply for a single project for a maximum award amount of up to $20,000.

The Group Option allows for three or more agencies from at least three different municipalities to collaborate on a joint regional project and apply for a maximum award amount of up to $50,000

Term of Contract
Grant End Date: Friday, December 1, 2017.
Deadline for Close-out Report: Friday, December 29, 2017.
