The Cape Cod Foundation
Grants starting at $5,000 to Barnstable County, Massachusetts nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools for long-range organizational capacity development and strategic initiatives. LOIs are due September 10. Consideration will be given to organizations operating in the areas of arts and culture; health and human services; children, youth, and families; community and economic development; environment; and housing.
These particular grants seek to utilize resources in the most efficient and effective way to develop or implement long-term solutions to address documented organizational and/or community challenges.
Strategic Focus Grants will support:
-Actions that improve nonprofit effectiveness and efficiency and/or strengthen organizational infrastructure and long-term viability
-Initial staff expansion for organizational growth with a clear plan for sustainability of position after funding ends
-Collaborative projects or strategic partnerships to address complex, regional needs (e.g. projects that engage multiple organizations, public policy initiatives, etc.)
-Expansion (e.g. geographic) or enhancement of existing programs with a proven track record of success; we are particularly interested in supporting strategies to increase sustainability or self-sufficiency of existing programs (e.g. through diversification of revenue sources

Strategic Focus Grants are requests of $5,000 or more.
-501(c)(3) public charities OR organizations serving a charitable purpose that are applying with a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) public charity
-Faith-based organizations; however, proposals will only be considered if: (1) services benefit all, regardless of religion; (2) service provided is not religious in nature; and (3) there is no proselytizing associated with the service
-Civic organizations (proposals must be project-based and of a charitable nature, and the organization must have a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization)
-Public and private schools, for projects that exceed the school’s budget funding (must have letter of support from the fiscal head of that school)
-Other government agencies with project-based proposals (must have letter of support from the fiscal head of that agency)
Those groups who are not 501(c)(3) organizations who wish to seek funding for a project should partner with a 501(c)(3) organization to serve as the fiscal sponsor to apply for Cape Cod Foundation funds. It will be necessary to complete a certification form and provide additional documentation. If the grant award is made, the 501(c)(3) organization will receive the award.
All projects must serve the residents of Barnstable County.
The Cape Cod Foundation will generally not consider proposals to fund the following: Endowment Building; Monuments and Memorials; Capital Improvements or Capital Campaigns.
A Letter of Inquiry (LOI) is the first mandatory step in the Strategic Focus competitive grant process. The LOI must be submitted using an online form, which will be available in August.
The LOI deadline is September 10, 2018. Select applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by October 1. Full proposal deadline November 1. Applicants will be notified of whether a grant has been awarded in December.
