Grants to Tennessee and Virginia nonprofit organizations for programs that meet the medical, educational, and social needs of children in eligible areas. Geographic focus includes the Tennessee counties of Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hamblen, Hawkins, Sullivan, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington, and the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise. Projects for which grant monies are being requested must directly affect the needs of children.

Applicants wishing to apply for capital expenditures and vehicles should also complete the Jeff Byrd Grant application, for which these projects or items are eligible. This $50,000 grant will be given to one organization each year.

The Jeff Byrd Grant award is $50,000.

Only non-profit children’s charities, which are tax exempt for federal (and state, if applicable) income tax purposes are eligible.

Applicants must serve children in counties of Carter, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington in Tennessee, and Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise in Virginia.

Ineligible categories for funding:
- Organizations that deny service to a potential client or beneficiary on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.
- Individuals
- Sponsorship for conferences, events, golf tournament
- Construction for buildings or remolding projects*
- Capital funding campaigns*

*Unlike the regular SCC Grants, the Jeff Byrd Grant allows agencies to apply for funding which will aid with capital expenditures and vehicles if needed.

The main SCC application must be postmarked by the deadline of August 1, 2016.

The Jeff Byrd grant application must be postmarked by September 15, 2017.

Applicants that wish to apply for the Jeff Byrd grants must apply for the Bristol Speedway Children’s Charities Grant as well as the Jeff Byrd Grant. The Jeff Byrd Grant cannot be applied for solely, and cannot be for the same project being applied for in the SCC Grant application.

Please note, Jeff Byrd grant applicants must have a plan in place to fund the amount if requesting above $50,000.
