Grants of up to $1,500 to California licensed child care providers, early childhood professionals, and caregivers to promote the healthy development of children. Funding is intended to support the development of children from the prenatal stage through age 5. Eligible projects must benefit children in Sonoma County.

Eligible Activities: 

  • One-time purchase of: curriculum, materials, equipment such as indoor or outdoor play equipment (outdoor equipment must support a natural outdoor play and learning environment – i.e. no play structures), books, and educational tools including computer hardware or software.
  • Professional Development: enrollment in appropriate training opportunities (coursework focused on child development for infant/toddler care, or trauma informed care with a focus on infants/toddlers), AND/OR books or materials needed for participation in coursework or workshops for infant/toddler child development or trauma informed care, AND/OR technical assistance that supports professional development for the child care business (bookkeeping, contract development, infant CPR, Infant health and safety, or other related certifications)

Estimated Size of Grant:

First 5 Sonoma County’s Mini-Grant Program provides small grants up to $1,500. There is no minimum request required.

Early childhood professionals or license-exempt caregivers may apply for up to $1,000 for professional development in infant and toddler curriculum, coursework, books and or materials to participate in coursework or workshops.

Term of Contract:

If you receive a mini-grant, you have until June 30, 2022 complete your mini-grant project.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications will be accepted from:
- Small licensed family child care providers (serving up to 8 children) located in Sonoma County who care for at least one infant or toddler aged 1 months to 24 months
- Large licensed family child care providers (serving up to 14 children) located in Sonoma County who care for at least one infant or toddler aged 1 months to 24 months
- Early childhood professionals or license-exempt caregivers planning to enroll in higher education courses in Spring 2022 or Summer 2022 focused on child development and caring for infants and toddlers who are not currently receiving or eligible for scholarships from the Quality Counts CARES/Pathways program.

- Child Care Centers are not eligible.
