Grants to USA nonprofit professional dance companies, arts-related organizations that help support the development of theater and dance, and graduate drama departments of private universities. Funding will be provided to all three types of applicants for general operating support, rather than for specific projects.

The standard for awarding grants to nonprofit professional dance companies is based on an assessment of each organization's operation and its contribution to the field. Artistic achievement, administrative strength, and fiscal stability are factored into each evaluation, as is the company's development of new work and other significant contributions to the field of professional dance in the USA.

Grants to arts-related organizations are based principally on an assessment of the organization’s work, as demonstrated by past and current performance. Impact, administrative strength, and fiscal stability are factored into each evaluation.

Please note that only a limited number of grants (in the form of scholarships) are made to graduate drama departments of private universities. These departments are evaluated principally in terms of their ability to train and develop theater artists.

The above two categories of arts and education are limited compared to the Foundation’s primary area of interest (dance). As such, potential applicants in these two categories are urged to carefully review the attached guidelines and to call for counseling prior to submitting a full application.

Recent grants range from $10,000 to $325,000.
The larger grants are generally awarded to organizations that have been on The Foundation roster for several years.

Shubert Foundation grants are awarded exclusively to USA organizations that have current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

The Foundation provides grants only to organizations that have an established artistic and administrative track record, as well as a history of fiscal responsibility.

The Foundation does not make grants to individuals, nor does it provide funds for project support, audience development, direct subsidy of reduced-price admissions, conduit organizations (agencies that disburse funds to individuals or other organizations), media (film, TV and radio), renovation projects, loans, capital or endowment campaigns.
