Grants of up to $5,000 to Maine and New Hampshire public and private PreK-12 schools and colleges for recycling and sustainable waste management programs. Funding is intended for projects that will reduce solid waste and increase recycling and composting. Previously funded proposals have ranged from purchasing in-school recycling bins or educational materials to offsetting compost hauling fees or assisting schools to participate in tours of ecomaine.

Recipients are chosen based on the following criteria:

- Project outline and school commitment
- Ease of project replication
- Likelihood of success and program sustainability
- How compelling and worthy the funding is

If selected, school recipients can receive up to $5,000 in available grant funds.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Funding will be awarded to schools, not individuals.

Schools may be public or private and of any grade levels (including post-high school).

Schools must serve students that live in a municipality served by or affiliated with ecomaine. Click here to see a complete list of the sixty-three communities served in Maine and the two communities served in New Hampshire:

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due by October 31, 2017. Late applications will not be considered.

Grant applications must be signed by the school's principal, superintendent, or president.

Grant monies will be dispersed as follows:

- Eighty percent (80%) upon initial award.
- Ten percent (10%) upon completion of the midterm project report.
- Ten percent (10%) upon completion of the final project report.
