Grants of up to $400 and grants of up to $1,200 to Maine classrooms or groups for gardening and farming projects that benefit children and schools. Funding is intended to support the following types of initiatives: field trips to local farms; the development of greenhouses and gardens in schools; cafeteria programs that source local produce and products and engage students in growing and preparing some of their food; presentations and workshops on farming, foraging, and sustainable agriculture; the purchase of gardening books and lesson plans; and for older students to apply their knowledge of gardening by teaching younger students.
