Grants to British Columbia nonprofit organizations, government agencies, First Nations, and Community Contribution Companies for research projects, legal reform activities, and educational programs that enhance the real estate profession. Funded programs and activities should aim to accomplish one or more of the following three goals: (a) improve the professional skills of real estate practitioners, (b) connect the public with up-to-date real estate laws, trends, and standards; and (c) support the sector’s efforts to build real estate and land use knowledge that contributes to resilient, healthy BC communities.

Priority for funding will be given to the following types of proposals:

- Applied research that builds knowledge and supports informed decision-making in real estate. Emphasis is on presenting insights and analysis intended to improve and build upon best practices.

- Creation of educational content and courses, and development of workshops, panel discussions, and forums intended to increase professional knowledge and skills in real estate and land use.

- Creation and delivery of education or services for the public on real estate and land use best practices.

- Information and insights into law reform and policy analysis relevant to real estate and land use.

The Foundation funds small, grassroots projects (typically between $2,000 and $20,000) as well as larger initiatives (as large as about $300,000).

Real Estate Foundation grants can support registered nonprofit organizations (including charitable organizations, municipalities, regional districts, First Nations, senior government departments, professional associations and other societies), as well as Community Contribution Companies (C3s).

Examples of organizations that may be eligible include Professional Association of Managing Agents, Condominium Home Owners Association of BC, Strata Property Agents of BC, Urban Development Institute, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Building Owners and Managers Association, Vancouver Regional Construction Association, Architectural Institute of BC, Appraisal Institute of Canada – BC, Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association, Canadian Home Builders Association – BC, and Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division. This is not an exhaustive list.

The Foundation will not entertain applications for:

- Directed political lobbying;
- Activities of religious organizations that primarily serve their membership and/or direct religious activities, unless the community at large significantly benefits;
- Activities that will primarily or exclusively provide financial benefits for individuals;
- Retirement of debt and/or retroactive funding.
