Grants of up to $5,000 to Connecticut and Rhode Island nonprofits, governmental units, and other qualified organizations for programs that will benefit local communities and improve the quality of life within the funding source's service area. Funding may be used for existing program support, general support, special projects, or start-up endeavors covering a variety of issues impacting the community.

Funding is available for projects within the Jewett City Savings Bank's market area:

Rhode Island: Burrillville, Glocester, Foster, Coventry, West Greenwich, Exeter, Westerly, and Hopkinton.

Connecticut: Andover, Ashford, Bozrah, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, East Haddam, Eastford, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Hampton, Hebron, Killingly, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Mansfield, Marlborough, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Salem, Scotland, Sprague, Stafford, Sterling, Stonington, Thompson, Tolland, Union, Voluntown, Waterford, Willington, Windham, and Woodstock.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation considers grant proposals from organizations including nonprofits as defined in IRS Codes section 501(c)(3) or a governmental unit referred to in section 170(c)(1). See the link in Grant Coverage Areas below for a list of eligible communities.

It also accepts applications from organizations serving households in their defined market area; organizations that they have financially supported in the past; organizations that direct services to low- to moderate-income households in the defined market area; organizations that support development and maintenance of housing for low- to moderate-income households in the defined market area; organizations dedicated to improving the quality of community life in the defined market area; and to other qualifying organizations whose goals are determined to be consistent with the Foundation’s mission.

The Foundation does not provide funding for individuals, sports, individual schools, or religious groups.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications are accepted starting July 1 each year, and all completed applications must be received by the Foundation no later than August 31. Funding for approved projects will be made by December 31. Applicants will be notified of their proposal outcome by mail.
