Grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to Los Altos area, California nonprofits and schools for programs, projects, events, and activities that directly benefit the communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the surrounding areas. Funding is intended for proposals that:

- Encourage local philanthropy.
- Serve vulnerable populations.
- Enhance the quality of life in the community.
- Create or preserve community physical assets.
- Encourage citizen community involvement.
- Foster conversations about community affairs.
- Promote community building.
- Better community communications.
- Foster increased civic pride and community spirit.

These grants enable stability for existing services and programs, innovations in services/programs and delivery, increased volunteer involvement, and/or stimulation of other grants and donations.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants generally range from $500 to $10,000, averaging around $5,000.

Term of Contract:

Multiple year awards (awards promised for more than one year) will not be made.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation accepts grant proposals only for charitable, educational, or community building purposes, primarily from tax-exempt, 501(c)3 charitable organizations.

LACF'S Community Grants Program supports nonprofit organizations and activities that directly serve the residents of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and/or the surrounding communities. Grant requests for services to be provided in other geographic areas will NOT be considered unless they involve a substantial number of local residents as volunteers.

School programs are eligible for consideration.

Grants are generally not made to governmental, religious, political, or profit-making organizations, nor to individuals for personal benefit (except for scholarships).

LACF does not make grants to organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, ancestry, color, age, familial status, handicap, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, lawful sources of income, national origin, or any other discriminatory practice prohibited by state or federal law. Grants must be made for activities that are legal.

LACF will not make grants that are to be used for re-granting. Grants will not be made to membership service organizations if the grant would be used to support one of their programs.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications should be submitted by the second Tuesday of February, June, or September. Applicants can apply for a grant any time, but generally, only one grant will be given to an organization within a 12 month period.

For the current cycle, applications are due February 13, 2018 at 11:59 PM PST (Midnight).

For time-critical, unforeseen opportunities or for grant requests of $1,000 or less, contact LACF directly. In these situations LACF may be able to respond outside of the normal grant-making cycles.
