Grants of up to $15,000 to Ohio and Indiana nonprofit organizations in eligible counties for health related activities that address the needs of local residents. Funding is intended to support services and programs that increase healthcare accessibility, further knowledge through research or health education, improve community health, or relieve a government burden. This program should benefit residents of Fayette, Franklin, Henry, Randolph, Union, and Wayne Counties in Indiana; and Darke and Preble Counties in Ohio.

For 2021, the Community Benefit Committee will focus grant funds toward the following priorities in the community:

Mental Health and Substance Misuse 

The Foundation's goal is to promote mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being within the communities they serve by improving mental health and reducing substance abuse. Grant requests will be evaluated on their ability to improve the following indicators:

  • Adults who smoke
  • Death rate due to drug poisoning
  • Mothers who smoke during pregnancy
  • Age-adjusted death rate due to suicide
  • Child abuse rate
  • Non-fatal ED visits due to opioid OD
  • Poor mental health-avg. number of days

Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Weight (currently closed)

The Foundation's goal is to improve the health of the community by encouraging healthy choices and reducing the disparities related to activity and nutrition. Grant requests will be evaluated on their ability to improve the following indicators:

  • Access to exercise opportunities
  • Adults 20+ who are obese
  • Adults 20+ who are sedentary
  • Child food insecurity rate
  • Food insecurity rate

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant awards will be limited to a maximum of $15,000 per grant application.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grant applications will be accepted from organizations which are qualified 501(c)(3) organizations and other organizations recognized by the IRS as those to which gifts are tax deductible.

No grants are awarded to organizations that discriminate as to race, gender, sexual preference, age, disability, creed, or ethnic group.

Consideration will not be given to grants which solely support funding of:
- Construction and/or renovation
- Land or property acquisition
- Endowments
- Projects or programs completed prior to the end of the grant cycle in which the grant was applied for

Pre-Application Information:


Mental Health and Substance Misuse: Accepting applications January 4, 2021, through February 25, 2021.

Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Weight: Accepting applications February 26, 2021, through May 20, 2021.

Applicants may be required to demonstrate other funding sources to support the program, in addition to the support provided by Reid.

Organizations will only receive funding through Community Benefit grants once per grant cycle in a calendar year.
