Request a Grant Writer

Grants starting at $1,000 to Oregon nonprofits, government agencies, or schools for programs that will benefit the public in Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, and Lane counties. LOIs are due by October 31, 2017. Grants are given for public benefit, with an emphasis on the areas of education, public safety, health, gambling addiction prevention, arts and culture, the environment, and historic preservation.

Focus Areas:

Education
School programs, supplies, technology, after-school programs, kindergarten readiness programs, preschools, reading programs, school libraries, music education, art education, etc.

Public Safety
Volunteer fire/police departments, volunteer rescue squads, volunteer EMS, and/or governmental departments around the Tribe’s Reservation.

Arts and Culture
Music appreciation, theater arts, cultural events, etc.

Environment
Projects involving air, water, minerals, organisms and other aspects of the environment.

Historic Preservation
Preservation and protection of buildings, objects and other historically significant artifacts.

Health
Physical health, mental health, food and energy assistance, and overall well-being.

Problem Gaming
Gambling addiction prevention, education, and treatment.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Your application must for at least $1,000. There is no upper limit to what you can request, but the Board of Trustees will make the final determination on funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants may be made to charitable organizations in eligible counties and to the Tribe.

Grants may also be made to governmental agencies in Coos County where funds are available for public programs involving schools, police and fire departments, and similar agencies.

Public agencies not based in Coos County may benefit from grants indirectly if they apply through a nonprofit organization Public agencies located outside of Coos County may also apply for grants specifically intended for programs or projects they administer that are located in Coos County.

Eligible counties include Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, and Lane.

While the Fund makes grants in diverse fields, the following are not eligible for grant review:

- General operating expenses, including salaries and benefits
- Fund-raising benefits or program advertising
- Funding of endowments
- Individual needs
- Medical or scientific research
- Recreation and sporting program sponsorships
- Religious programs
- Residential care and medical clinics
- Scholarships or fellowships
- Governmental agencies, including public school districts, outside of Coos County

- Letters of Inquiry Due: October 31
- Applications Due: November 30
- Board of Trustees meet: Mid December
- Awards Banquet: February or March

The application process begins with a letter of inquiry. This letter should provide basic information on the organization seeking funding and the project or program to be funded.

All Letters of Inquiry are reviewed and grant-seekers should expect to receive notification of the results of the review within a week or less. Grant-seekers whose projects are determined to be eligible for funding will be invited to complete a full application.
