Grants of up to $5,000 to New York nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, artist collectives, and individual artists for arts and cultural programming to benefit local residents in eligible locations. First-time applicants must attend an information session. Funding is intended for projects taking place in Queens.

The Community Arts Grant supports projects by community-based organizations that provide access to artist-driven cultural projects or activities that enhance the cultural vibrancy in Queens’ communities and neighborhoods where they live and operate and make the arts accessible to all.

Project funding is available for:

  • Performance, literary, media, and visual arts projects that include a public component that benefit the Queens communities
  • Projects and programs by Queens-based nonprofit organizations of various ethnic, social, and geographic areas providing arts and cultural programming that are open to the public

Eligible Expenses:

  • Artists' fees
  • Administration costs
  • Marketing and publicity costs
  • Supplies and materials needed for the execution of the project
  • Venue rental for the project (general home/office rent is not eligible)
  • COVID-19 change:
    • Planning and preparation expenses for a proposed event can be included in the project budget
    • Supplies and materials needed to execute the proposed project that does not exceed $1,000.
    • Equipment, software, subscriptions, and training related to the creation and promotion of virtual programming (items may not exceed $1,000).

Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Term of Contract:

All funded activity must take place in Queens within the 2021 calendar year. Any extensions or changes to the original proposal must be requested and approved in writing.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Community Arts Grant supports:
- Queens community-based nonprofit organizations offering cultural activities
- Queens community-based organizations that do not have nonprofit status, but apply through a Queens-based fiscal sponsor
- Artist collectives working in partnership with Queens-based organizations
- Individual artists working in partnership with a Queens-based community nonprofit organization as their fiscal sponsor.
- These are project-based grants, so even non-arts organizations can apply, as long as projects provide cultural or arts programming to the public in Queens.

First-time applicants must attend a QAF Information Session. QCA encourages all applicants to attend an information session and to contact the QAF Staff to discuss your project before submitting your application.

Applicants that have started drafts can come in for a one-on-one meeting with QCA staff, to review their application before submitting. Sign-ups for one-on-ones will open at least one week before the day of the session. QCA will announce when sign-ups are open.
