Grants to Oswego County, New York nonprofit organizations and other tax-exempt organizations, such as governmental subdivisions, for programs and projects that benefit local residents. Applicants must schedule a meeting at least two weeks before the deadline. Grants will only be given to proposals that have a focus on the areas of education, arts and culture, civic benefit, environment, religion, health and human services, historic preservation, economic revitalization.

Eligible Types of Grant Requests:

Grants may be awarded for the following programs and projects:

- Organizational capacity building
- Special projects
- New programs
- Seed grants
- Capital campaigns
- Challenge grants

Grants proposals should focus on the following matters:

- A positive and transformative impact to the community of the proposed use of money, including long-term investments in social capital and infrastructure.
- The viability of the applicant, and the sustainability of the program.
- Clearly stated, and achievable, objectives and timeframes.
- Collaboration within the community, and the inclusion of diverse voices.

There is no minimum or maximum grant size.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Status:

- Grants only to organizations that are classified as tax-exempt under ยง501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or those that are considered exempt such as governmental subdivisions.
- Organizations that are located in or benefit Oswego County through specific projects or programs.
- Organizations may receive only one grant per twelve-month period.
- No grants or loans will be made to individuals.

Foundation the does not offer scholarships at this time.

Pre-Application Information:

To be eligible for specific grant rounds, your organization must submit an online grant application by the following dates, which correspond with the 2018 board meetings listed below. Applicants will be notified immediately following a board meeting whether their application has been approved (and at what funding amount) or denied.

Organizations seeking grants or wishing to explore possible projects must contact the funding source to set up a meeting with their Executive Director to discuss your organization and grant proposal before applying for a grant. Please Note: Meeting requests received less than two weeks prior to the grant deadline will not be honored.

The Foundation would be happy to discuss your project and how the Shineman Foundation could best partner with you. If you decide to apply for a grant, the Foundation has an online grant application system. Please click on the link in the Contact Information section below to begin your grant application. If you are unable to apply online, please contact the Foundation for assistance.

Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The Board of Directors of the Shineman Foundation meets three times a year in March, July and November.

2018 Grant Application Deadlines:
- June 8 - Round 2
- September 28 - Round 3

2018 Board Meetings:
- July 19 - Round 2
- November 8 - Round 3

Decisions are typically made within 6-7 weeks after the application deadline, at the next scheduled Board Meeting.
