Grants of up to $5,000 to Georgia nonprofit organizations and K-12 public, private, and charter schools for music programs and projects. Funding is intended to provide education to children and youth, to foster an appreciation of the state's musical heritage, and for music heritage preservation. Applicants should demonstrate need, impact on a school, program or community, and the capacity to responsibly manage project operations and finances.

In order to be considered, the applicant must clearly demonstrate that the proposed project falls within one of the three categories below and meets criteria for that category:

  • Education: Project provides music instruction and/or programming for K-12 schools, after-school programs or music camps. Public, private and charter schools may apply; however, public or charter schools must identify in their application the percentage of students that qualify for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) free or reduced price school meals. All private schools must provide the cost of tuition and the number of students that receive full or partial scholarships based on low income.
  • Preservation: Project interprets, documents and preserves Georgia’s rich music heritage. Examples include, but are not limited to, conducting oral and video histories, restoring or digitizing historically significant materials and production of documentaries or media that preserve and interpret stories of Georgia’s music history and culture.
  • Outreach: Project interprets and fosters an appreciation for Georgia’s rich music heritage through public programming. Examples include museum exhibitions, educational workshops, symposiums, and lectures. Festivals, plays, ballets, or other special events are generally not considered unless applicant clearly demonstrates project is in support of an existing museum or educational program and presents Georgia’s music heritage and stories as the primary focus of the proposed programming.

Eligible Use of Funds:

  • Georgia Music Grants are only eligible for expenses associated with: music instruction including instructor, teaching artist or artist residency fees; instructional materials; instruments, instrument repair and musical equipment; music technology, hardware and software; exhibit curation, design and fabrication; fees for musical artist or lecturer participating in approved project; archival research and development.
