Grants of up to $500 to Kentucky small farm operations and individual farmers to attend educational programs that will help them expand operations. Priority will be given to proposals with a strong potential to impact sales and revenues of Kentucky-based farm operations.

Funds for this grant must be pre-approved (prior to attending any workshop, etc.) Kentucky farmers can use funds for registration fees, specific travel (light, bus, train), and in some cases, mileage on personal vehicles. Meals are excluded from funding.

Examples of funding may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Better Processing Control school offered by the University of Kentucky
- Aquaculture and/or Aquaponics training
- Appropriate educational books, literature, online webinars

Up to $500

Eligibility requirements are listed below:

- A Kentucky farm producing agricultural products for sale to the public with gross agricultural sales greater than $1,000 and below $250,000 in 2014/2015 (this is a self-declaration, but must be verifiable)

- Farmers or producers formally and actively seeking organic certification with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture

- Farmers or producers interested in improving the marketability of their agricultural products through specific training

- Farmers or producers interested in new ventures that require training in order to take advantage of the SSFG KSU employees and their immediate family members are not eligible

Special considerations will be made for limited resource farmers (household income of less than $23,000/year), small acreage producers, female farmers, minority farmers, and the 54 Appalachian counties. Grantees must comply with all health, food safety, and other federal, state, and local laws.

Applications must be received by the 1st of each month listed below:
- 2016: October, December
- 2017: February, April, June, August

If your application is approved, you will receive a notification letter, along with a contract to sign and return. Upon final authorization, a check will be issued for up to but not exceeding $500 for educational training and/or materials.
