Cannon Charitable Interests - Canon Foundation
Grants to North Carolina nonprofits, government agencies, and churches for programs and projects focusing on healthcare, higher education, human services, and the community (i.e., arts and culture, historic preservation, and the environment). Applicants must complete an eligibility quiz before applying.
Priorities for each of the focus areas are as follows:
Healthcare: Grants for healthcare organizations include local hospitals as well as critical access and rural hospitals, hospices, free clinics, agencies serving special needs populations as well as mental and substance abuse providers across North Carolina.
Higher Education: The Foundation typically supports private colleges and universities across North Carolina. Community colleges operating in, or serving, Tier I counties of North Carolina are also given consideration. The Foundation only funds public or private K-12 schools in Cabarrus County. The Foundation does not define education to include outreach efforts to raise awareness of issues or concerns.
Human Services: Grants are made to organizations and agencies engaged in human services such as crisis assistance organizations, food pantries, homeless shelters, domestic violence services, developmentally disabled support organizations and child advocacy centers.
Community: A smaller number of grants are made to organizations in arts and culture, historical preservation, and environmental concerns. Grants to religious organizations are only made to local churches.
GrantWatch ID#: 175123
Grant size varies by the type of organization and type of project.
The Foundation does not make multi-year commitments.
Well-established organizations that have been in operation for five or more years and are qualified for exemption as public charities under section 501(c)3 or the IRS code are eligible. Also, local governmental agencies and local churches are eligible as well.
The Foundation primarily funds organizations that are located in or serve citizens of the state of North Carolina with an emphasis on rural areas.
The Foundation will not provide funding for computers and phone systems (as those are considered a basic need of operations).
