Grants ranging from $750 to $5,000 to Texas nonprofit organizations, agencies, and schools for initiatives that encourage children to make health-conscious decisions. Funding is intended to assist preK-12 schools incorporate good diet and physical activities within the curriculum.

Applicants may apply to one of the following categories:

Healthy Choices Grant Level 1: $750-$3000
Level 1 grants are awarded for a single school year (two or more semesters) or a summer program. Campus level, Grade Level, Teacher and Summer Programs that meet the minimum requirement of 3 of the 7 Healthy messages will be considered for Level 1 funding. A physical activity and nutrition educational component are required as two of the three Healthy Messages. Including more than 3 of the Healthy Messages is encouraged. All programs must have a sustainability plan. For those grants that are purchasing equipment or supplies that are on an annual renewal basis, the grant must include a plan to renew said equipment/supplies for subsequent years.

Healthy Choices Grant Level 2: $3000 to $5,000
Level 2 grants are awarded for a two-year (4 semesters) or longer program that includes a minimum of 5 of the 7 Healthy Messages. A physical activity and nutrition educational component are required as two of the 5 or more Healthy Messages. Level 2 grants are intended to create a long-term sustainable program at the campus level. All programs must have a sustainability plan. For those grants that are purchasing equipment or supplies that are on an annual renewal basis, the grant must include a plan to renew said equipment/supplies for subsequent years.

Healthy Messages:

1) Choose five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
2) Have more water and less sugary beverages.
3) Opt for healthy snacks.
4) Increase active play and decrease screen time.
5) Choose three servings of low-fat dairy products per day.
6) Enjoy a healthy breakfast.
7) Serve a smart portion size.

Level 1 Grants: $750 - $3,000

Level 2 Grants: $3,000 - $5,000

Level 1 Grants are for a summer term or a single school year.

Level 2 Grants are for two years or longer.

Grants will be awarded to Texas non-profit organizations, agencies, and schools that demonstrate the greatest need and likelihood of a sustainable impact on children's nutrition and activity levels through innovative programs.

Funding will not be provided to support the following:

- Organizations that practice discrimination by race, color, creed, sex, age or national origin
- Contributions to capital campaigns
- Operating deficits or retirement of debt
- Endowment programs
- Construction projects or real estate acquisitions
- Political projects of any kind
- Vehicles, such as vans or buses
- Emergency medical services equipment
- Clothing or uniforms for specific groups
- Personnel Salaries
