Grants to USA nonprofit organizations and IHEs for programs and services that assist the elderly. An optional letter of inquiry is due by December 1, 2016. Funding is intended for the areas of research, advocacy, improving services, and professional education and training.

Program area goals include:
- Advocacy: Achieve enduring social change around issues that affect older Americans.
- Direct Service: Improve availability and quality of community-based and residential long-term services and supports. (This category is only open to organizations located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, or Florida.)
- Professional Education and Training: Increase the competency of professionals and paraprofessionals who serve older adults.
- Research: Seek causes and solutions to significant problems for older adults.

Previously, grants awarded in 2015 ranged from $10,000 - $190,461.

- Tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or non-profit organizations that are not required to have a 501(c)(3) designation, such as state-funded universities
- Proposing a project that may have a significant focus on older adults, ages 65 and above

RRF grant funds cannot be used for lobbying efforts to win or defeat any specific pieces of legislation.

Direct Service grants may only be awarded to organizations located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, or Florida.

In addition, RRF does not fund:

- General operating support
- Conferences or fundraising events
- Governmental agencies, except for state universities, area agencies on aging, and programs of the Veterans Administration

Interested applicants may submit a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI). This step is optional, but may offer valuable feedback as you prepare a full proposal. An LOI may be emailed to loi@rrf.org as a Word or PDF attachment. To allow enough time for feedback, please submit LOIs at least six to eight weeks prior to the proposal deadline (December 1, 2016).

Include the following information in a two-page Letter of Inquiry:

- Brief outline or description of the project and what the applicant intends to accomplish
- Target population and geographic area for the project
- Brief statement of need
- Proposed objectives and outcomes
- Principal proposed activities
- Timeframe
- How evaluation will be used
- Estimated cost of the project, the amount of funding already secured (if applicable), and the amount requested from RRF

Before starting your grant application, please review the funding source's website listed below for updates/changes/addendums/conferences/LOIs.

Send optional LOIs to loi@rrf.org as a Word or PDF attachment by December 1, 2016.
