Grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to Wisconsin nonprofit organizations, as well as community and civic groups for restoration of the Greater Milwaukee watersheds, including the Kinnickinnic, Menomonee, Milwaukee, Root Rivers, and Oak Creek. Examples of projects include, but are not limited to:

- Rain barrel, cistern, rain garden, and native landscaping harvesting installations
- Riparian buffer or shoreline restoration efforts
- Planting of trees and other vegetation to reduce stormwater runoff
- Replacement of asphalt, concrete and conventional lawns with trees, plantings and gardens
- Use of porous concrete, porous blacktop and permeable pavers
- Educating the public about storm water pollution prevention actions
- Engaging in activities that protect the rivers and lakes from pollution and habitat destruction
- Green roofs, vegetated bio-swales, and buffer strips
- Wetland restoration and pocket wetlands

Successful applicants will likely combine several of these elements in a single project.

Program distributes grants of $1,000 to $5,000.

Funding will be awarded to non-profit organizations, community, and civic groups.

Projects must be located in one of the five Greater Milwaukee watersheds: the Kinnickinnic, Menomonee, Milwaukee, and Root Rivers and Oak Creek.

Given the limited dollars available, private businesses and units of government are not eligible for mini-grant funding; however, non-profit organizations including Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops, schools, churches, and Boys & Girls Clubs, are encouraged to partner with local governments and businesses on efforts that meet Sweet Water’s mission and vision.
