Grants to Long Island, New York county government agencies and nonprofit organizations to establish substance abuse service programs. Programs will serve as a resource for families and individuals dealing with substance abuse addiction and recovery. Programs may operate in a variety of settings, including emergency rooms and departments.
Up to $150,000 is currently available annually to support two Peer Engagement services in each of the 10 New York State Economic Development Zones (EDZ). Currently, there are nine EDZ with Peer Engagement Services awarded.
This RFA will allow the one EDZ (Long Island) without these services to establish the program as well as create an additional ten programs for a total of two programs in each EDZ. Total funding available for these eleven programs will be $1.65M annually. This amount may increase or decrease based on future State and Federal appropriations.
Funds are to be used to support the community coalitions, partnerships, and objectives described herein. Proposed use of the funds for other activities will not be considered.
Applications should address the following objectives:
-Work with hospital Emergency Rooms and other points of entry into the system in local and other adjoining counties;
-Establish contacts and recovery partnerships in the community;
-Engage substance use disorder providers to ensure timely access to care and effective coordination with hospitals and other points of entry,
-Collect required data, prepare reports and program outcomes;
-Coordinate an agency presence and peer voice on community committees, events and coalitions;
-Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse cultural background and practices, peers and other agency staff.
-Individual calls will receive a callback or visit within 2 hours;
-Facilitate educational presentations to local agencies, hospitals, criminal justice and other settings;
-Linkages and referrals to community support, treatment and recovery; and

Eligible applicants are:
-County Local Governmental Units (LGUs) planning to directly provide the services required in this planning supplement.
-Not-for-Profit agencies that operate at least one OASAS program and/or have experience of providing supports to individuals with Substance Use Disorders. A letter of support (Attachment 2) from a LGU(s) is required. Proprietary entities are not eligible.
