Award of $2,500 to a Washington, DC legal services lawyer to recognize outstanding representation of poor or disadvantaged clients through full-time work at a nonprofit. Nominations are encouraged for lawyers who have demonstrated both exemplary skills as a legal professional and compassion for their clients.

The 2017 Scoutt Prize will be presented during the DC Bar Judicial Reception in Spring 2018.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

A nominee must meet the following criteria:

-He or she must be an attorney who is currently working full-time, or who has been employed full-time for a significant portion of his or her legal career, by an organization that provides direct, hands-on legal services to poor or disadvantaged persons in the District of Columbia.

-The organization itself must be one which has received or is eligible for a grant from the District of Columbia Bar Foundation.

-The nominee must have demonstrated a compassionate concern for his or her clients while exhibiting a high degree of skill as an attorney on their behalf.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations made for the 2016 and 2017 prize will be reconsidered without a formal resubmission. However, those who submitted nominations in those years are encouraged to update their nomination materials.

Nominations must include the nominee’s curriculum vitae. Supporting materials, like articles of interest or letters of support, are highly encouraged.

Send nominations and supporting materials via email by 5:00 PM on November 17, 2017.

The 2017 Scoutt Prize will be presented during the DC Bar Judicial Reception in Spring 2018.
