Grants to Linn County, Iowa nonprofit organizations for programs and projects that benefit local communities. First-time applicants are advised to contact program staff prior to beginning an application. Eligible types of requests include both programs and capital projects.

Grant applications will be scored based on how well they meet the following objectives:

- Has potential for long-term impact
- Serves a broad segment of the population or those at risk
- Addresses an emerging need or provides a solution to an existing community and/or organizational need
- Clearly describes project goals
- Demonstrates sound financial plans for future funding of the project / program
- Project developed in collaboration with other organizations rather than duplicate services

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Witwer Trust grants will be made only to nonprofit organizations that are located in Linn County, Iowa or that have a branch location in Linn County and whose work benefits Linn County residents. Proof of nonprofit status is required.

Applicants may use a fiscal sponsor. The fiscal sponsor must meet the grant eligibility requirements.


-Applicants who have not submitted the required final report for previous Witwer Trust grants are not eligible for funding.
-Due to legal restrictions, Iowa Code Section 331.901(5), organizations under ecclesiastical or sectarian management are not eligible for Linn County grant funds.
-Requests for operating support are not eligible.
-Grants must be for expenses that have not yet been incurred.

Pre-Application Information:

The next grant cycle begins November 1, 2017 and the deadline for submission will be December 15, 2017. Applications are accepted during that timeframe only and must be submitted online at the RFP URL. Funding decisions are made in February.

Only one proposal is allowed per organization, and only one project is allowed per proposal.

First-time applicants are encouraged to call and discuss potential projects prior to applying. Do not wait until the day of the deadline to start the application. It is recommended that you start your application by December 1 so you have time to ask questions, if needed.
