Grants of up to $500 per item to New Jersey municipalities and police departments to purchase body-worn camera devices. The purpose of this award is to increase transparency in law enforcement by providing audio and video recordings of interactions between officers and the public.

DCJ provides technical assistance to applicants during the development of the application and to subrecipients during the implementation of the program. DCJ also prepares and submits programmatic and fiscal reports to OJP on all funded projects.

The Attorney General has authorized subawards of up to $500 per each BWC or camera “package” purchased under this program. The grant will provide $500 or the exact cost of each BWC package, whichever is lower.

Funding provided under this 2016 BWC Assistance Program is for new BWCs purchased on or after the date of award. The period of performance will be one (1) year.

New Jersey police department agencies and municipalities (excluding correctional agencies) are eligible.

Those applicants who participated in the 2015 BWC Assistance Program are ineligible for funding at this time.

The application deadline has been extended from the October 19, 2016 deadline listed in the Notice of Funding Availability. Applicants must email their completed applications by 4:00 PM, Wednesday, November 30, 2016.

All applicants will be notified in writing on or about January 9, 2017 as to whether or not they will receive 2016 BWC Assistance Program awards.

Funds will be issued on a reimbursement basis.
