Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Minnesota local governments on behalf of off-road vehicle clubs and enthusiast groups to develop new or maintain existing recreational vehicle trails. Eligible trails are designated for use by ATVS, off-highway motorcycles, and other off-road vehicles. Group and club applicants are required to gain the sponsorship of their county, city, or township.

All aspects of OHV trail development and maintenance are eligible to receive GIA funds, including project administration, site planning, trail improvements, land acquisition for trail development, and trail maintenance.

Generally, GIA trail development priorities depend upon geographic demand for different types of trails and the availability of critical management resources (i.e., funding, staffing, and volunteers).

Priorities are:

1) First priority - Maintenance of existing approved trails and trail systems.

2) Second priority - Improvements or enhancements to existing trails and trail systems that will result in greater utility, durability, visitor safety or satisfaction, improved resource protection, added trail mileage or trail connections, or improved day-to-day management or enforcement.

3) Third priority - Develop substantially new trails, trail systems, riding areas, or support facilities (e.g., parking lots, campsites) for OHV trail users.

Off-highway vehicle clubs and groups may apply with the support of their county, city, or township.

Application forms for maintenance of existing trails are due in the DNR Parks and Trails Area Supervisor's office by November 30 annually.

New trail proposals are accepted at any time.

Before starting your grant application, please review the funding source's website listed below for updates/changes/addendums/conferences/LOIs.
