Grants of up to $1,500 and in-kind support to Mississippi nonprofit arts organizations, schools, public agencies, and artists in eligible areas to increase community exposure to the arts and benefit the community. Funding is intended for program and project support to promote the arts, increase collaboration and increase community involvement. Eligible organizations and artists must be based in Lauderdale County.

Meridian Council for the Arts, Inc.’s Community Arts Grant Program is designed to support projects that broaden access to art experiences, address community quality of life issues through the arts and provide innovative arts experiences that are new or unfamiliar to Lauderdale County community residents.

The goals of the program are:

  • To foster a vital and resourceful arts community.
  • To provide cultural and arts education opportunities for every school in the community.
  • To increase collaboration between arts organizations, schools, and local colleges and universities.
  • To encourage a community that is involved in and strengthened through the arts.
  • To promote arts and cultural programs/projects that increase public art education and awareness.

Grants are awarded for program support and special project support, such as collaborations with arts organizations and artists, programs reaching low-to-moderate income audiences and other special needs. In addition to issuing grants, the Community Arts Grants Program provides assistance to artists, arts administrators, and volunteers through workshops, published materials, consultations and individual artist’s grants.

The Community Arts Grants Program offers financial and technical assistance to arts organizations and artists in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

Nonprofit organizations with an arts-based mission in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, with a minimum three-year history of presenting quality arts projects as well as schools, colleges, public and social service agencies are eligible to apply. Organizations must have an active and supportive Board of Directors and be organized as a nonprofit, preferably a 501(c)3.

No grants are made for:
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Dinners, pageants, fund-raising events
- Cash awards
- Endowments
- Operating expenses, capital improvements
- Scholarships or tuition assistance
- Arts activities outside Meridian/Lauderdale County or those not open to the public

- Application Deadline: January 14, 2022

Proposals not postmarked by January 14, 2022, will not be considered.

Grants must be matched dollar-for-dollar.
