Grants to Connecticut nonprofit organizations and municipal entities for projects that benefit communities in eligible locations. Funding is intended for activities within, but not limited to, the focus areas of community and social services, health and wellness education, youth development, aging and livable communities, arts and culture, environmental awareness, and cultural heritage. Priority is given to proposals that demonstrate collaboration and strong partnerships. Eligible programs benefit Southbury residents.

Possible Projects: 

  • Social and Community Services: Support Southbury residents by providing access to basic needs, transportation, and affordable housing.
  • Wellness and Health Education: Promote a healthy, vibrant community by encouraging access to prevention programs, fitness, and access to care for all ages.
  • Enhancement of Youth Development: Foster positive identity, strong values, social competencies, commitment to learning, community service, empowerment, leadership, and resilience for Southbury youth.
  • Aging and Livable Communities: Develop and promote programs that enable older adults to age in place successfully. May include: connecting older adults with benefits and services; reaching people who are underserved; home maintenance, chore, and home safety programs; and building age-friendly communities.
  • Arts and Culture: Promote access to performing arts and fine arts programs for community enrichment.
  • Environmental Awareness: Encourage the preservation, protection, and conservation of land, water, and wildlife.
  • Culture Heritage: Support Southbury’s tangible cultural heritage and town history.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The average amount is between $5,000 and $10,000. Grants for larger amounts can be considered; in that case applicants are encouraged to contact the Foundation to discuss the the project in advance of submission.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a nonprofit organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or a municipal entity seeking a grant for public purposes.
- Must have a board, representative of the community, of which a majority is neither employees nor relatives of employees.
- Possess a Nonprofit Registration to Solicit Funds (or exemption, if appropriate) from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. This registration must be renewed annually.

Ineligible for Funding:
- Requests for political or religious purposes
- Requests from municipalities or religious organizations for buildings or associated expenses (however, the Foundation may consider support for equipment if it is specifically part of an eligible programmatic request)
- Requests for capital expenditures on buildings not owned by a nonprofit
