Grants of $15,000 to Tennessee nonprofit organizations in eligible areas to address urgent community needs due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Applicants must contact the funding source prior to applying. Funding is intended to support general operations and emergency programs of organizations that provide services to local vulnerable populations. Eligible organizations must primarily serve the residents of Hamilton County.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to building a community where all the Community Foundation's neighbors have access to the resources and opportunities they need to reach their fullest potential. This commitment should be evident within internal structures, goals and approaches.

In light of the continued challenges due to the pandemic, the Community Foundation has suspended capacity building and multi-year funding for 2021. During the Spring 2021 Grant Cycle, the Community Foundation is offering general operating grants to assist its nonprofit partners who are working to help the Foundation's neighbors navigate difficult circumstances and regain stability.

The Foundation will consider applications from organization’s whose primary mission is focused on one or more of the following:

  • Meeting basic human needs including: food, financial assistance, and shelter
  • Creating opportunities for living wage jobs
  • Supporting affordable housing
  • Providing affordable healthcare and mental health services

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations primarily serving Hamilton County residents will be eligible to apply.

Priority will be given to organizations with annual budgets under $5,000,000.

Priority will be given to organizations that have experienced a 15% or more reduction in income in 2020 when compared to the previous year.

The Foundation values community partnership and invites all grant seekers and recipients to contact our office at any time to discuss the grant application and award process. The application deadline is 5:00 EDT on the day of the deadline.

Application Process:
1. Potential applicants call or email Foundation staff with an idea
2. Potential applicants complete an internal self-assessment (see Supporting Documents below) and then meet with Foundation staff to discuss their organization and funding needs
3. Applicants are invited to complete an application through the online grants management system
4. Staff may decline the application, defer the application to a future cycle, or schedule a site visit or call to learn more about the organization
5. Applicants revise their application and submit it for consideration
6. Funding decisions are communicated and follow-up reporting assigned
