Grants to Spartanburg County, South Carolina nonprofit or governmental agencies for addressing early childhood development. Core areas of focus include: teen pregnancy prevention and support, children's relationships with family members, and children's emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development. Early childhood development is defined by the Foundation as the process of growth that occurs prenatally through the first five years of life.

The Foundation's philosophy is that children who are born healthy, grow up in stable families, have nurturing relationships with adults, and spend time in environments that provide stimulating experiences are more likely to succeed academically, socially, and economically.

Organizations are more likely to receive funding from the Foundation if they can demonstrate the following during the grant review process:

- A board of directors that is actively involved in strategic governance, fundraising, and giving;
- A board and staff are representative of our diverse community in Spartanburg County;
- Staff who are qualified through training and experience;
- Implementation of a strategic plan that includes measureable objectives;
- Use of a data management or tracking system that allows the organization to measure its outcomes;
- The ability to use outcomes data to measure progress toward strategic goals and improve programs;
- A focus on reducing health disparities; and
