Grants of $3,000 to Southeastern Oregon and Idaho middle and junior high school classes to help local nonprofits with community service projects. Classes will redistribute funds received to a maximum of three nonprofit organizations of their choice. Classes must adhere to the following minimum requirements:

1) Each student (individually or as a small group) must research a 501(c)3 designated nonprofit organization (non-religious) that serves a need in their local community

2) Each student/group must prepare a written summary of the nonprofit, the needs it addresses, the history of the nonprofit, number of people assisted annually, etc.

3) Each student/group must present an oral argument/presentation to act as an advocate for their selected nonprofit

4) The class must determine how to allocate the approximately $3,000 between up to three of the various organizations; e.g. the entire $3,000 to one nonprofit, $1,000 each to 3 separate nonprofits, or any other combination. The only caveat is that $500 is the minimum contribution that can be made to a single nonprofit.

5) Once the allocations are determined by the students, and approved by CenturyLink as meeting the requirements of the program, the selected nonprofit(s) will be invited to a presentation at the school along with a representative of CenturyLink, so the students can present their donation, as well as discuss their decision-making process and what they learned from this project.

Teachers may add additional elements to their project such as field trips, volunteering, etc.

Eight classrooms will be selected to participate.

The project must be completed and the presentation must take place before the end of the 2016/17 school year.

Eligible participants include Idaho and southeastern Oregon middle/junior high school classes located within communities served by CenturyLink.

Applications must be emailed or faxed by Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Late applications may not be considered.

Applications will be reviewed by CenturyLink in late January, and all applicants will be notified of their application status by December 10, 2016.
