Grants of up to $50,000 to USA and Canada health care providers and organizations, members of academic institutions, and consumer advocates and organizations for projects designed to improve the quality of life for individuals with Spinal Cord Injury / Disease (SCI/D), as well as their families and caregivers.

Funding is intended to educate consumers about the consequences of and complications associated with SCI/D, improve the knowledge and skills of SCI/D health care professionals, and to prevent the occurrence and complications of new SCI/D.

The Education Foundation has five topic categories for funding consideration:

1. Consumer, Caregiver, and Community Education:

- Demonstration projects that seek to improve the health, independence, and quality of life of individuals with spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D)

2. Professional Development and Education

- Programs that improve the knowledge and competencies of professionals providing health care and related services to the SCI/D community; or

- Fellowship/traineeship programs for professionals providing health care and related services to the SCI/D community.

3. Research Utilization and Dissemination

- Projects that translate research findings into practice.

4. Assistive Technology

- Demonstration projects that improve the identification, selection, and use of assistive devices by people with SCI/D.

5. Conferences and Symposia

- Meetings that provide education and opportunities for collaboration among members of the SCI/D community.

Please Note: Grants will be awarded based on how much the proposed project matches the stated mission of the PVA Education Foundation. Applicants should demonstrate how their proposal will involve or benefit paralyzed veterans, PVA chapters and members, and/or facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

The maximum amount for a PVA Education Foundation grant is $50,000 per year. The maximum amount for a conference or symposia grant is $15,000 per year.

In general, grants awarded by May 1 will be funded for a one-year period beginning June 1, and ending May 31, the following year, assuming the Foundation has received the necessary paperwork from the Project Director and Grant Administrator.

Eligible applicants should be members of academic institutions, health care providers and organizations, or consumer advocates and organizations. Grantee institutions must be located in the United States or Canada. However, project directors and fellows are not required to be USA or Canadian citizens.
