Foundation / Corporation
08/01/19 - Land Acquisition applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Grants to Newark, New Jersey nonprofit organizations for programs to improve and strengthen the local community, as well as for projects to protect the environment throughout the State. First-time applicants must submit a Letter of Intent. Funding is intended for programs that align with the following areas of focus: education, youth and families, neighborhood development and urban activities, and the environment.
To fulfill its mission, the Foundation seeks to improve educational outcomes for young people, stabilize and revitalize distressed neighborhoods, promote civic engagement and leadership, increase job training and placement opportunities, help children develop into healthy, creative adults, and strengthen fragile families.
Additionally, the Foundation focuses on the acquisition of critical tracts of open space in New Jersey. New Jersey's open lands are under development pressure, putting the state's drinking water supply at risk. Climate change science points to heavier, more intense rainfall, which can contribute to flooding along rivers and the NJ coastline during storms. Land acquisition is the only sure way to preserve many of the state's premier sites for the public good and to protect the built environment from floodwater.
Special consideration is given to groups that are working in areas of current interest to Victoria Foundation, including the New Jersey Highlands, the Kittatinny Ridge and Valley region, and the Pine Barrens. The Foundation is also accepting land acquisition/conservation project requests that focus on NJ's coastline or within the city of Newark whose purpose is to address climate change and promote resiliency.
Victoria Foundation Land Acquisition grants may be used to cover fee purchases and easements. You are also encouraged to include a contribution towards a stewardship endowment as part of the request. Projects should address the Foundation's key conservation values, which include protecting water quality and promoting coastal resiliency.
GrantWatch ID#: 176983
Victoria Foundation Land Acquisition grants rarely exceed 10 percent of the total acquisition cost.
At this time, the Foundation is only considering project or program support (not general operating support) from organizations that have been determined to be exempt from federal tax by the Internal Revenue Service. Organizations must have a letter from the IRS indicating that they are exempt under Section 501(c)(3) and specifying whether they are a 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), or 509(a)(3) organization. No grants are made to individuals, either as individuals or through a sponsoring organization.
