Foundation / Corporation
GMA Foundations - The Rutland Corner Foundation (RCF)
Grants of up to $15,000 to Greater Boston, Massachusetts nonprofit organizations for programs and activities that benefit girls and young women between the ages of eleven and twenty years old. Eligible regions in the Greater Boston area includes Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Quincy, Revere, Salem, Somerville, and Winthrop.
RCF provides support to programs that align with the Foundation’s guiding values and principles, and supports activities in a variety of focus areas, including athletics, performing and creative arts, science education, life skills, health and wellness, domestic violence intervention, and other approaches.
Some of the criteria RCF looks for when it considers proposals are:
- Extent to which the program is committed to RCF’s values and guiding principles
- Number of girls or young women served in program
- Frequency of quality contact with girls or young women during program cycle
- Programming that has measurable impact on the girls or young women served
- Clear evaluation processes to track and measure impact
- Resources for the program that are garnered from other funding sources
RCF considers requests for program support for new initiatives, pilot projects, ongoing direct services, and general operating expenses related to serving girls and young women that align with RCF’s guiding values and principles and general funding priorities.
RCF will consider funding staff professional development opportunities and/or conferences for girls, as a portion of a requested grant.
GrantWatch ID#: 177029
In a typical year, RCF funds 4-6 requests.
The average award amount for each year of funding is between $5,000 and $15,000.
RCF considers one-year or multi-year requests. RCF will fund organizations for up to three consecutive years. Once funded for three consecutive years, organizations will not be eligible to apply for two years.
RCF does not have a maximum number of years for which a program can receive funding, nor does the Foundation stipulate a wait period for organizations to reapply. Refunding for consecutive years will be considered after successful completion of a funding cycle. Multi-year payments are contingent upon reaching agreed-upon annual deliverables.
Funding requests will be considered from Massachusetts-based nonprofit organizations, as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. Applicants must be located within the Greater Boston area and serve girls and/or young women between the ages of 11-20 years. Localities are: Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Quincy, Revere, Salem, Somerville, and Winthrop.
The Foundation supports gender-specific programming for girls or young women. Organizations may serve both girls and boys, but RCF will not fund mixed-gender programming. Additionally, organizations that may happen to serve a majority of girls or young women, but do not have a dedicated all-girls program, will not be considered.
February 1, 2018: Proposals Due
All applicants will be notified by mid-May, early-June of the trustees’ decisions.
As a part of the foundation’s due diligence process, board members will often meet with or interview select applicants who have submitted proposals. These meetings typically take place in March and April.
