Award of $500 to a Delaware teacher, non-formal educator, or administrator to recognize exemplary accomplishments in environmental education. The purpose of this award is to honor efforts to instill environmental stewardship in students through outdoor experiences and creative projects.

-Time engaged in environmental activities/projects. Length of time per activity/session, number of sessions, duration of projects, etc;
-Breadth of integration across academic disciplines;
-Time spent outdoors including time spent at readily accessible sites such as school yards as well as formal field trips;
-Outcomes of students’ activities and projects;
-Engagement in environmental projects/learning for issues that directly affect Delaware;
-Effect on the school and local environments. Classroom, school building, school property, surrounding community, etc;
-Scope and/or scale of school or community involvement. Numbers of students and adults directly and indirectly touched by environmental activity.

Award Recipients Receive:
-$500 towards a class field experience, personal enrichment program or trip, or other products or services offered by Delaware Nature Society;
-An original, personalized watercolor painting Award Certificate;
-A one-year household membership to Delaware Nature Society; and
-Statewide recognition through press releases and posting on Delaware Nature Society’s website.



To be considered for Delaware Nature Society’s Outstanding Environmental Educator of the Year Award, applicants must:

-Currently be working in education in the State of Delaware. Selection is not restricted to classroom teachers. Administrators, support staff, and out-of-school educators are welcome to apply.

-Have not previously been presented with the Award.

The completed application must include the teacher's Principal or Supervisor’s signature and at least two letters of recommendation.

Applications must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2017.

The Selection Committee will review applications and identify Award Finalists. Applicants not chosen as finalists for the award will be contacted in February.

Finalists will be contacted by representatives from the Selection Committee in mid-February to arrange an in-person meeting at school or to speak by phone as needed for an informational interview.
The Selection Committee will meet in early March to discuss Finalists and make a decision on the Award Recipient.

The selected Award Recipient for the Outstanding Environmental Educator of the Year Award will be notified in early March.
