Grants of up to $500 to Durham, North Carolina nonprofit organizations, businesses, garden club, schools, teachers, and residents for volunteer-based environmental and beautification projects. Funding is intended for activities such as litter cleanup and prevention, waste reduction, recycling, and community greening.

Projects will need to meet one of more of the following criteria. Projects will not be expected to meet all criteria, but the more of these areas that are addressed, the more favorably the project will be viewed.

- Impact: Impact of the project on the community
- Community involvement: Volunteer participation
- Partnerships: Involvement of local businesses and other partners to leverage or match grant funds
- Sustainability: Sound ecological principles including native landscaping, re-used and recycled materials, etc.
- Innovation: Creative solution to a community challenge
- Community building: Project brings the community together in some way
- Uniqueness: Utilizes local artists or artisans, references local history or culture, uses local materials, etc.

Grants will be awarded up to $500.

Residents, teachers, schools, community organizations, garden clubs, and businesses in Durham that need help covering costs for projects or activities focused on litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction, beautification and community greening, are welcome to apply.

The work of the project must be performed by volunteers and, where applicable, there must be a method for sustaining the project after the grant money has been used.

Grant Guidelines:

Grants are awarded on a reimbursement basis following successful completion of the project phase.
