Grants of up to $8,000 to Galveston, Texas public school teachers and staff for student learning and enrichment initiatives. Innovative and creative projects are more likely to get funding, as well as projects that will improve reading and writing, history, math, and science skills. Projects focused on STAAR and AP test performance are given high priority. Materials that can be used year after year are preferred over consumables or perishables.

The following are less likely to be funded:

- Field trips and registration fees are considered a one-time event of limited duration
- Sports/UIL activities
- Supplies or materials that should be supplied by the school or district
- Unnecessary or wasteful requests (examples: t-shirts, iPads with larger memory than required)
- Poorly explained or unrealistic projects

The award range is up to $2,000 for individual grants, up to $5,000 for teams or department grants, and up to $8,000 for campus or district-wide initiatives.

Grants awarded in the spring cycle must be spent by the last school day in April, 2017.

Grants are limited to Galveston ISD professional personnel working directly with children. Applicants may apply individually, as a team or as a campus/district-wide initiative. In the case of team, campus and district-wide proposals, a Project Coordinator must be designated to assume overall administrative responsibility for the project, and all related correspondence will be so directed.

Eligible Projects: Projects must benefit GISD students. Proposals will be judged based on their potential contribution to the success of students. Funds may not replace normal funding from tax-based sources. The proposal must describe some quantitative and/or qualitative method to evaluate the success of the project. Grants will not cover incentives, rewards or total honorariums. Also, expenses for consumable or single events must be justifiable. Extra-curricular activities may be included but must be sponsored by the appropriate GISD school and have academic or vocational content.
