Grants ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 to USA public middle schools and high schools in multiple states to support athletic programs that are in jeopardy due to reduced budgets. Funding may be used to support athletics programs through the purchase of new equipment or paying for competition travel costs.

Eligible States include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington, DC, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant program will consider grant requests for public middle and high schools whose athletics programs are in jeopardy and in great need of funding in all states except: AK, HI, MA, MI, NY, WI.

Grants cannot be used for individual student awards, construction projects, organizations whose primary purpose is fundraising, or other school programs.

The applicant must be a current member, or referred by a current member, of the state NEA affiliate or one of the other participating educator associations including:


Pre-Application Information:

January 15 is the deadline for grant consideration in the current school year. Applications received after January 15 will be considered for next year's grant program.

All applicants who submitted their application by January 15 will be notified of their status by May 30 of the same year.

Checks will be made payable to your school.

Applications must be submitted by an active employee of the public school for which the grant is being requested. Please advise your Principal and Athletics Director of your grant request. California Casualty will be in contact with them in regard to your application status.
