Grant to a Washington, DC nonprofit organization, IHE, or a private enterprise to implement an educational competition involving electric vehicles in District high schools. The program must involve at least ten high school campuses, with a primary focus on non-STEM schools.

The goal of this Request for Applications (RFA) is to conduct a hands-on educational program and organize an Electric Vehicle Grand Prix Competition (DCEV Grand Prix) for high schools in the District of Columbia. Participating students must apply engineering, science and math concepts to build and race full- size electric cars on a closed loop course designed to ensure safe and competitive races.

The educational program and competition proposed by potential applicant(s) must clearly demonstrate how hands-on projects and competitions can be used to foster critical thinking, innovation, advancements in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and battery storage technologies.

The purposes of this grant are to:

-Generate enthusiasm for science and engineering principles at a crucial stage in the educational development of young adults;

-Enhance students’ understanding of renewable energy and associated technologies, and encourage them to consider technical careers;

-Demonstrate the highest levels of reliability, efficiency and energy management of battery powered electric vehicles; and

-Emphasize critical thinking, leadership, team work, and project management, while educating a new generation of drivers about the environmental and financial benefits of using clean transportation.

The amount available for the project is approximately $170,000.
