Grants of up to $12,000 to Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington libraries, institutions, and community-based organizations to improve public access to health information. Applicants must submit an intent to apply at least two weeks prior to the deadline. The goal of this program is to connect the general public with quality health information, and to provide all health professionals with equal access to biomedical information.

Specifically, the Community Health Outreach Award seeks to support local, state or regional outreach projects with aims to improve access and use of quality online health information for informed decisions about health in underserved communities --including, but not limited to racial, ethnic and sexual minorities, rural, and other medically underserved populations

Potential projects may include the following activities (other creative ideas encouraged):

-Promotional activities, including health fairs, exhibits and events to increase awareness and use of electronic resources.

-Hands-on training sessions at conferences of health care providers or librarians about skills to identify, access, retrieve, evaluate, and use relevant electronic health information resources for patient and consumer health education.

-Collaboration by one or more of the following: libraries (all types), public health agencies, academic or K-12 programs, healthcare workforce, or community organizations.

Allowable expenses: Personnel, equipment, supplies, travel and other costs such as reproduction of materials, software, Internet service provider fees. These are examples only and are not meant to be all-inclusive.

Expenses are also allowed to publicize a health information service, event or resource, including NLM or NN/LM resources or services, but the allowable costs are limited to educational materials or publicity, such as posters, displays, flyers, bookmarks, or brochures. Please consult the policy at http:// (link is external).

Funding is available for 3 awards.

Up to $12,000

This award funds project activities until April 30, 2017. A no-cost extension may be available to complete activities.

Applicants must be from institutions that are members of NN/LM PNR. Network membership is free and open to institutions interested in improving equitable access to health information.

Any institution, library, or community-based organization with a health information mission is welcome to apply for membership.
