Grants to Canada nonprofit or co-operative organizations to promote the employability of marginalized youth or individuals with mental health challenges. Applicants are advised to contact program staff to receive an invitation to apply. The Foundation supports programs that contribute to financial security for Canadians and their communities.

The Co-operators Foundation Community Economic Development (CED) Funds supports charities, nonprofit organizations, and co-operatives that base their work on CED values and principles and whose projects fit with The Co-operators organizational values and strategic priorities.

Funding will be allocated to community initiatives that assist marginalized individuals and communities, helping them build the capacity for economic self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. At this time, The Co-operators CED Funds prioritize projects that lead to job creation and/or enhanced employability for marginalized youth and/or persons with mental health issues.

Definition of CED: CED is a community based and community directed process that explicitly combines social and economic development and is directed towards fostering the economic, social, ecological and cultural well being of communities and regions.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be registered charities, nonprofits, or co-operatives.

The Foundation will NOT provide financial assistance for:
-Capital expenditures
-Conferences, workshops, seminars
-Fund-raising initiatives
-Deficit Reduction
-Retroactive expenses
-Financial Literacy programs
-Summer camps

Pre-Application Information:

Application rounds for 2017:

1) Spring 2018 funding round – applications will be handed out starting October 16, 2017. Applications are due January 15, 2018 by 11:59 PM EST.

2) The fall funding round – applications are due September 1, 2017 – This will be an invitation-only funding round.

If you feel that your organization’s focus/programming aligns with the funding requirements and would like to receive an application, please contact the Foundation.

Organizations that meet the focus on employability skills programming for marginalized youth and/or individuals with mental health challenges will be sent an application, which will be due by January 15, 2018.
