Grants to Canada artists, curators, groups, collectives, artistic organizations, nonprofits, and festivals to facilitate touring presentations and exhibits. Applicants must register online at least 30 days prior to the deadline. First-time applicants are encouraged to speak with a program officer before submitting an application. Funding is intended for activities linked to artistic exchange and networking for Canadian artists, artistic groups, and arts organizations.

Grants help build international exposure and increase the visibility of Canadian artists and their works abroad. International presenters, partners or host organizations must pay performance or exhibition fees to the presented artists, groups or organizations.

Eligible Activities:
- Circulation or touring of artists, exhibitions, or artistic works to 1 or more international locations
- Cross-border Canada/United States tours with a majority of events in the US

Eligible expenses are direct costs related to the activity, including:
- Artists’ fees
- Transportation
- Accommodation and per diem
- Additional shipping or baggage costs directly related to the activity
- Touring production and exhibition expenses
- Promotion and project management
- Pre-tour artists’ fees and production expenses for remounting existing works (for performing arts only)

Grants are generally up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $200,000.

Types of potential applicants to this component include:
- Artists and curators
- Artistic groups and collectives
- Artistic organizations
- First Nations, Inuit and Métis professional artists, groups, collectives and not-for-profit organizations
- Media arts distribution centers and festivals
- Canadian and international visual arts festivals

Your eligibility to apply to this component is determined by the validated profile created in the portal.

Organizations presently receiving core (operating) grants can apply to this component.

Projects that are self-organized, self-presented, or self-promoted are not eligible.

You can’t apply for activities that occur before the deadline date, those that receive funding from another Canada Council program or those on the general list of ineligible activities.

The following activities are not eligible for grants from the Canada Council:
- Activities proposed by someone under 18 years old
- Activities that are illegal according to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Artistic activities that are led by non-professionals
- Activities that are carried out to satisfy the course requirements of an educational institution
- Activities that directly support the delivery of an educational program or course
- Activities that are funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) (unless applying to a component of Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples)
- Self-publishing or author-subsidized publishing of literary works (unless applying to a component of Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples)
- Activities carried out by organizations that have not paid, or do not pay, fees or royalties to artists according the standards of the arts practice or sector
- Fundraising activities
- Capital expenditures, unless explicitly eligible
- Contests and competitions (including prizes and awards)
- Contributions to endowment funds

Pre-Application Information:

- May 2, 2018 for notification by September 2018
- September 5, 2018 for notification by January 2019
- December 12, 2018 for notification by April 2019

International presenters, partners or host organizations must contribute financially to the tour. This can include the payment of performance or exhibition fees, providing a share of the admission fees or box office sales and, in exceptional circumstances, a contribution to accommodation or other touring costs.
