Neighborhood Services offers grants to neighborhoods that are willing to match funding through cash, in-kind donations, professional labor or volunteer hours.

The application process takes approximately seven months to complete:

1. A neighborhood representative attends a mandatory application seminar.
2. The neighborhood notifies Neighborhood Services of its intent to apply, thereby initiating consultations with county staff.
3. The neighborhood researches best practices, regulatory obligations, and costs; and determines how to make its match. The application is completed and submitted.
4. The neighborhood receives feedback from Sarasota County staff, and is given the opportunity to respond. Staff comments and neighborhood responses are then shared with the Neighborhood Initiative Grant Advisory Committee (NIGAC) members.
5. The neighborhood sends a representative to attend the NIGAC scoring meeting. The NIGAC scores and recommends applications for approval. Applications are scored on Public Benefit, Community Support, Community Need, and Community Strengthening.
6. The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approves the applications
