Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA nonprofit institutions for initiatives that integrate new technologies or create valuable online resources in the field of European art history. Support may be offered for the digitization of important visual resources (especially art history photographic archives) in the area of pre-modern European art history; of primary textual sources (especially the literary and documentary sources of European art history); for promising initiatives in online publishing; and for innovative experiments in the field of digital art history.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are awarded to nonprofit institutions with 501(c)3 status, based in the United States, including supporting foundations of European institutions.

International applicants must identify a U.S. non-profit as the financial agent for their proposal, and provide a copy of that organization’s IRS Determination Letter to confirm its 501(c) 3 status.

Limitations:
- The Foundation does not pay grants directly to individuals.
- This grant program does not typically support the digitization of museum object collections.
- The Foundation requires its funding be allocated toward direct costs only.

Pre-Application Information:

The Kress grantmaking portal will accept LOIs for 15 days at the beginning of the Foundation’s Spring and Fall grant cycles. Institutions must submit an LOI by the deadlines below in order to apply for a Digital Art History Grant in that cycle:

LOI Submission Deadlines:
Spring Cycle: March 1, 5:00 PM EST.
Fall Cycle: September 1, 5:00 PM EST.

Institutions invited to apply for a Digital Art History Grant will be notified via email within 7 business days of the LOI submission deadline.

Application Deadlines: April 1 and October 1.

If the LOI has been accepted, the organization will be invited to submit a full proposal via the online grantmaking portal. Applications must be submitted via the portal on or before the dates above by 5:00 PM EST.

The Kress Foundation does not limit the number of applications that organizations may submit at any given time. Neither does the Foundation place a limit upon the number of grants that may be awarded to a single institution simultaneously.
