Grants of up to $20,000 to Dallas County, Iowa nonprofit organizations and government agencies for programs that enhance local communities. Funding is intended to support projects in the areas of health, human services, education, arts and culture, humanities, public and society benefit, environment, and animals.

The Foundation Board of Directors is made up of individuals who look for projects that address community issues that positively impact the greatest number of Dallas County residents.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum grant awarded for any one proposal is $20,000.

Term of Contract:

Funds will not be available until May of the grant year and must be used within a twelve month timeline.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Dallas County Foundation makes grants to IRS 501(c) (3), (5) or (6) federal income tax exempt organizations and 170(b) units of government organizations.

The Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation has generously shared profits with counties that border Greene County, and that have a community foundation. These funds will be awarded through the Dallas County Foundation grant process and will require recognition of both the Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation and the Dallas County Foundation. Non profits receiving Grow Greene County funds will be advised and receive further instructions as needed. (For further information about GGCGC, see

An organization not having one of the federal income tax exempt designations listed above can affiliate with an organization that does, such as a city government. The grant requesting organization would need to ask that entity to be their fiscal agent. The grant application would need to include a signed “Letter of Intent” from this agency and a copy of a letter from the IRS confirming their non-profit status.

Religious or political organizations are not eligible, unless their project benefits the entire community.

The Foundation does not approve grants for organization start ups.

- Budget deficits
- Other endowment foundations
- Recurring or ongoing expenses
- Projects not serving Dallas County
- Politically sensitive projects
- Religious projects
- Start-up funds
- Consumable items

The Foundation does not fund stipends, lodging or travel, or consumable items such as food or diapers.

If you want to learn more about the Dallas County Foundation grant process, please plan to attend a grant workshop seminar. The Foundation will walk you through the grant application and answer any questions regarding the selection process.

On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, a Grant Writing Workshop will take place from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the Adel Public Library. There will be lunch. The workshop is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP by registering online by December 21, 2018, for the Workshop and Lunch.

Pre-Application Information:

The Application Deadline is 5:00 P.M., Friday, February 1, 2019. Grant applications must be received by 5 p.m. to be considered for the 2019 grant cycle. Grants sent through the mail MUST BE postmarked before February 1, 2019.


- February: Grant Committee reviews applications.
- February-March: Selected grants presented to the board for approval.
- March: Grant applicants will be notified of approval or denial.
- May: Funds will be available

Projects must include in-kind and/or matching funds.
