Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Massachusetts nonprofits for projects that will benefit local communities. Funding will be awarded to programs in the areas of social welfare, historic preservation, visual arts, medicine (human and animal), and land conservation. Preference will be given to projects where a large area or number of people will benefit.

Grants will be made exclusively for capital projects and capital purchases.

The Board favors supporting well-managed organizations with good oversight and relatively low administration and other overhead expenses. An organization's financial statement and condition are important considerations. The Board also looks favorably on organizations that can secure funding from multiple sources.

Term of Contract:

Multi-year proposals will not be funded.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts may apply.

The Fund will not accept proposals from:
- Individuals
- Private Foundations
- Organizations existing or operating outside Massachusetts
- Organizations funded principally with tax dollars
- Start-up organizations
- Section 509(a)(3) supporting organizations
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Educational institutions for educational purposes

- Programs
- Salaries
- Annual fund drives
- Emergencies or immediate funding requests
- Events, performances, media, theatrical productions, publications, exhibits, conferences
- Multi-year grant proposals
- Advocacy or lobbying efforts
- Scholarships/Fellowships/Endowments

Pre-Application Information:

There are two grant cycles during the year: February 1 and July 1.

Applications must be electronically submitted by 5:00 p.m. and required materials must be received in the office no later than close of business on the day of the deadline. If the deadline date occurs on a weekend, the proposals are due on the Friday before the weekend by 5:00 p.m.

Acknowledgment of Receipt:
The Funding Source will confirm receipt of your proposal by e-mail.

Decision Notification:
Decisions on proposals will be announced within approximately three months after the application deadline.
