Grants to Massachusetts nonprofit organizations operating in the areas of historic preservation, land conservation, human and animal medicine, visual arts, and social welfare. Funding is intended for capital purchases and capital projects. The Board favors capital projects and purchases when the need is relevant to the community served, and where a large area or number of people will benefit.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts may apply.

Selection Criteria:

The Fund will not accept proposals from:

- Individuals
- Private Foundations
- Organizations existing or operating outside Massachusetts
- Organizations publicly funded and Foundations supporting them
- Start-up organizations
- Section 509(a)(3) supporting organizations
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Educational institutions
- Fiscal Agents

Not funded:

- Operating budgets
- Programs
- Administrative overhead
- Annual fund drives
- Emergencies or immediate funding requests
- Events, performances, media, theatrical productions, publications, exhibits, and conferences
- Advocacy or lobbying efforts
- Scholarships / Fellowships / Endowments

Pre-Application Information:

There are two grant cycles during the year.

The deadlines are February 1st and July 1st 2019.

Applications must be electronically submitted by 5:00 pm and required materials must be received in the office no later than close of business on the day of the deadline. If the deadline date occurs on a weekend, the proposals are due on the Friday before the weekend by 5:00 pm.

Confirmation of receipt for a proposal will be sent by e-mail.

Decisions on proposals will be announced within approximately three months after the application deadline.

To maintain the consistency, impartiality, and fairness of the process, the trustees ask that applicants do not contact them directly about any aspect of a grant request.

The Grant Fund varies from year to year, but is generally in the range of $8-10 million.
