Grants of $25,000 to Mississippi municipalities for programs and projects that aim to improve the health of State residents. Funding will be provided to one municipality from each of the following three categories: a large town of 15,000 or more residents, a medium town of 5,001 - 14,999 residents, and a small town of 5,000 or fewer residents.

In addition, one municipality will be designated as the "Healthiest Hometown in Mississippi" and will be awarded a $50,000 grant. A town of any size may receive this designation.

Funding is intended to be used only to improve a municipality's health and wellness culture.

To recognize the winning municipalities, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation will provide the following:

- Congratulatory ad in the local newspaper and statewide publications;
- Wall plaque for City Hall and/or a promotional road sign at the town's entrance; and
- Promotion of the winning towns on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation website.

Number of Grants:

The Foundation will award up to four grants.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Three $25,000 grants will be awarded to municipalities from a small, medium, and large town.

In addition, one municipality will be designated as the "Healthiest Hometown in Mississippi" and will be awarded a $50,000 grant. A town of any size may receive this designation.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Municipalities based in Mississippi can apply.

Size Restrictions:

For the "Healthy Hometown Award," a municipality must serve one of the following town sizes:

- A large town of 15,000 or more residents;
- A medium town of 5,001 - 14,999 residents; or
- A small town of 5,000 or fewer residents.

For the "Healthiest Hometown in Mississippi," a municipality serving a town of any size may receive this designation.

Additional Restrictions:

- Municipalities receiving the “Healthiest Hometown” award designation are ineligible to submit an award application for three years following their award year.
- Municipalities receiving a “Healthy Hometown” award may submit an application, but will only be eligible for the “Healthiest Hometown” award for a three year period.
- If a “Healthy Hometown” award winner does not win the “Healthiest Hometown” award within the three year period, the municipality is again eligible for a “Healthy Hometown” award.

Please Note: For an application to be considered, a municipality must have a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance in place.
