South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC)
Grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 to South Dakota individual artists to support specific arts projects that benefit both the artist and public audiences. The purpose of this program is to recognize talented artists across disciplines, promote career development for artists, foster creative achievement, and encourage artists to plan and implement projects that benefit the public.
Criteria for Awarding Grants
In reviewing applications, panelists consider the following:
-Quality of the applicant’s work as demonstrated by artistic documentation submitted. Note: Artistic quality accounts for 50% of an applicant’s total score and plays a critical role in panel ratings and funding recommendations. Artistic quality is determined only by the quality of the submitted documentation.
-Record of professional activity and artistic achievement.
-A detailed description of the proposed project and the artist's intended use of the grant funds.
-How an Artist Project Grant will contribute to the artist’s professional growth and career at this time.
-How the project will benefit the public.

Recipients of Artist Project Grants are eligible to apply for Artist Fellowships and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grants in subsequent years without fulfilling the waiting period requirement.
