Grants to Virginia, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles and San Fransisco, California organizations to promote the health and well-being of residents. Funding will be provided for a wide range of civic, cultural, and charitable endeavors as well as public interest law and legal education.
The Foundation's priorities and focus areas are as follows:
- Children's services are a major focus, as is funding for disadvantaged families and individuals.
- Homeless shelters and food programs receive special attention.
- Community organizations are important to Venable, as are hospitals, hospices, and local chapters of national health organizations.
- The Venable Foundation also supports a wide range of educational, artistic, and cultural events and organizations.

The Venable Foundation does not contribute to religious organizations or religiously affiliated organizations.
