Scholarships to Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania teens to participate in an approved trip to Israel. Applicants can apply for either needs-based scholarships of up to $3,000, or non-need scholarships of $1,750. Non-need applicants must attend an interview on March 13, April 13, or April 26. (Applicants only need to attend on one of these dates.)

An approved Israel trip must be:

1) Educational in nature
2) Organized by an educational institution or religious institution,
3) Staffed by qualified personnel, and
4) A minimum of three weeks long, with the exception of approved trips from a Jewish day school. Birthright and family trips are not applicable.

Non-need scholarships: $1,750
Need-based scholarships: Up to $3,000

To be eligible for an Israel Scholarship you must:

- Be a permanent resident of areas served by the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
- Be a student in ninth grade or above, unless the trip is an essential component of a day school curriculum. (College students are eligible if their permanent residence is within the area served by the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh).
- Minimum stay must be three weeks (this policy makes an exception for shorter trips for day schools).
- College, high school, summer work-study and Kibbutz Ulpan programs are appropriate.

2016-17 Israel Scholarship Group Interview Dates:

All scholarship applicants are required to attend a group program with other applicants at the Federation. The goal of the session is for the applicants and their parents to learn about the work of the Jewish Federation, share their expectations for the trip and ask any questions.

Group Interview Dates:

Monday, March 13, 2017
Thursday, April 13, 2017
Wednesday, April 26, 2017

All non-need scholarship applicants are required to attend the group interview. Parents are also strongly encouraged to attend. Applicants must choose one of these dates on the online application (see link to apply in Contact Information section below). All sessions will begin at 7:30 pm.

If you are applying for need-based aid in addition to the non-need scholarship, at least one parent or guardian must attend an interview with a member of the scholarship committee. This process will help determine the amount of funding applicable. Need-based interviews will take place just prior to and/or after the group interview on the same dates. Please speak with the scholarship program administrator to schedule your time.
